Job Summary
Medical Coder I performs coding on diagnoses, procedures, professional services, and supplies following AMA guidelines and payer criteria for reimbursement, research, and compliance. Answers coding questions from non-clinical staff. Runs reports and monitors charges to ensure timely, accurate coding of medical and behavioral health services and charges. Collaborates in developing programs and training for medical staff in basic coding techniques.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Six (6) months of medical coding experience in ICD-10-CM
- Six (6) months of medical coding experience in CPT-4
- Six (6) months of medical coding experience in E&M
- Six (6) months of medical coding experience in HCPCS
- Equivalent combination of desired education/certification and work experience
Desired Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree or certification in Health Information Management
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and/or
- Certified Coding Specialist-Procedural (CCS-P)
- Certified Professional C coder (CPC)
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Six (6) months of medical coding experience in ICD-10-CM
- Six (6) months of medical coding experience in CPT-4
- Six (6) months of medical coding experience in E&M
- Six (6) months of medical coding experience in HCPCS
