Job Summary
Conduct high-level clerical work involving computer tasks, answering phones, scheduling patients, word processing, and data entry under the direction of a Program Supervisor. Verify insurance, authorizations of services, and coverage classifications while maintaining clear understanding of medical insurances, CPT, ICD-9-CM, and HCPCS codes. Take minutes of meetings and perform related duties as required. This part-time role operates from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Medication Clinic and CCIS within Genesee Health System.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent
- Twenty (20) college and/or vocational credit hours that included a minimum of 4 credit hours in computer classes
- 4 credit hours in a medical billing class
- 12 hours in health administration, medical assistant administration, RHIT or CPC programs
- Five (5) years of experience as a medical clerk or directly related field
- Computer and data entry skills
- Clear understanding of all medical insurances
- Clear understanding of CPT codes
- Clear understanding of ICD-9-CM codes
- Clear understanding of HCPCS codes
- Ability to visually assess details at both near and far distances
- Ability to perceive depth and spatial relationships
- Ability to receive and respond to verbal communication
- Ability to lift up to 35lbs on an occasional basis
- Ability to regularly stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to walk at a minimum of 35% up to a maximum of 65%
- Ability to occasionally stoop, bend, or reach to perform work tasks
- Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, including the use of hands and fingers for handling, grasping, typing, writing, or operating equipment
- Ability to read, write and follow oral and/or written instructions
- Ability to exercise judgment
- Ability to answer the phone
- Ability to schedule patients
- Ability to perform word processing
- Ability to perform data entry
- Ability to verify insurance
