Job Summary

Prepare patients for procedures by obtaining vital signs, measuring height and weight, performing vision and audiometry screenings, and collecting specimens. Assist providers on examinations and treatments, or act as a scribe to transcribe histories, physical exams, diagnoses, and patient orders. Manage clinic operations by opening exam rooms, checking equipment, cleaning surfaces, and maintaining computer systems and patient charts. Ensure accurate documentation, verify discharge instructions, and facilitate patient flow while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to safety policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Education, experience as a Medical Assistant (MA)
  • Prefer one to two years of experience
  • History working with NextGen software and medical coding training, or certification
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Medical terminology
  • Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record exam details
  • Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications
  • Legible handwriting and ability to accurately record information
  • Organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow
  • Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively
  • Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing
  • Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, confidentiality, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers and peers
  • Assist in training of new staff and students completing externship
  • Hearing: Sufficient to engage with patients and staff in person and by telephone
  • Speaking: Clear verbal communication to convey medical and operational information
  • Vision: Visual acuity adequate for reading printed materials and viewing electronic screens
  • Cognitive Abilities: Aptitude to complete tasks, including abilities such as learning, remembering, focusing, categorizing, and integrating information for decision-making, problem-solving, and comprehending
  • Motor Function & Mobility: Ability to move within the work environment to complete tasks and interact with others
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 10 pounds without assistance
  • Frequent standing, sitting, bending, reaching, and other movements typical of a standard workday
  • Regular use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, operating tools or equipment, and handling materials
  • Some pushing and pulling required during daily tasks
