Job Summary
Supervise a team of Medical Assistants by managing schedules, conducting weekly meetings, coaching staff, and handling hiring, orientation, and performance appraisals. Ensure quality of care through precepting, competency auditing, and leading suite-wide quality improvement programs using LEAN methodology. Perform direct patient care duties including vital signs monitoring, electronic health record documentation in NextGen, specimen collection, venipuncture, immunization administration, and basic medical office procedures. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary healthcare teams to manage patient flow, answer patient assistance lines, and coordinate care via external health databases. Work evenings or weekend shifts as needed to support clinic operations.
Required Qualifications

- Ability to register patient in EPM
- Ability to check patient in for appointment using the EPM
- Ability to make an appointment for a patient using the EPM
- Ability to sign patient up for CICP using proper paperwork
- Ability to perform check-ins for all patients and work closely with the multi-disciplinary healthcare team to achieve efficient patient flow and effective use of clinic resources
- Ability to obtain specimens and perform laboratory tests including urinalysis, urine HCG, hematocrits, urine drug screens, etc
- Ability to perform venipuncture and prepare blood and other specimens accurately for transport to the central lab
- Ability to process labs as needed after-hours or at satellite sites
- Ability to perform basic medical office procedures including sterile and non-sterile procedures, application of dressings, pulse oximetry, peak flow analysis, EKG, spirometry and other screening tests
- Ability to administer immunizations per clinic protocol including into the CIIS State of Colorado database
- Ability to assist providers and nurses with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care including chaperoning paps, preparing procedure trays, and other support as needed
- Ability to contact clients in need of follow-up for missed appointments or other chronic, complex care management outreach needs as requested
- Ability to answer the patient assistance line live incoming calls and return voicemails; handle all questions within MA-scope; transfer calls appropriately to other disciplines PRN
- Ability to schedule appointments, X-rays, special studies, etc upon request
- Ability to maintain given access to external health databases such as CORHIO, DH Epic, SCL, PDMP, etc
- Ability to enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reviewing current literature, completion of required onboarding/orientation, annual competencies, assigned continuing education, and satisfactory attendance in disciplinary, inter-disciplinary, suite, quality improvement, and all-staff meetings
- Ability to participate in team-based or interdisciplinary quality improvement initiatives, at least yearly
- Ability to maintain established departmental policies and procedures, including quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control standards
- Ability to document appropriately in Safetyzone for internal reporting of client or staff events
- Ability to send and receive requests for disclosure of protected health information according to established procedures, ensuring compliance with the HIPPA Privacy Act and confidentiality laws
- Ability to maintain clinic files that meet legal, auditing and grantor requirements as needed
- Ability to perform various personnel actions related to hiring, orientation, performance appraisals, counseling, and staff disciplinary issues
- Ability to ensure suite MA quality of care is appropriate
- Ability to act as a preceptor when needed
- Ability to ensure suite MA staff has passed through competencies
- Ability to audit direct client care practices to ensure quality care standards are upheld in practice
- Ability to assist with MA remediation when necessary
- Ability to champion and lead quality improvement programs for the suite
- Ability to share knowledge with other MA team or inter-disciplinary members on quality improvement & LEAN methodology
- Ability to maintain a professional and confidential work environment
- Ability to provide for the safe delivery of patient care, in routine and emergency situations, within the scope of education and training
- Ability to communicate significant clinic information to other healthcare professionals as necessary
- Ability to collaborate with other members of the multi-disciplinary health care teams including but not limited to medical assistants, primary care medical providers, behavioral health providers, and nurse educator
- Ability to record all vital signs into NextGen which include BP, P, T, R, Height, Weight, & smoking status
- Ability to record all patient visits electronically into NextGen, ensuring that they include the PMH, PSH, FH, Social History, allergies, and medication reconciliation
- Ability to record office procedures such as peak flow, nebulizer treatments, compression stockings, wound care, and DME according to standing orders, clinic protocols, or provider's orders
- Ability to record point of care results appropriately per standing orders, clinic protocols, or provider orders which may include A1c, rapid strep, glucose, HIV
- Ability to use the Inbox to manage tasks
- Ability to use the Telephone Template to help record communications regarding a patient
- Ability to submit appropriate submissions to billing
- Ability to scan documents into appropriate section of patient chart in NextGen
- Ability to use the EPM (Electronic Practice Management) system as demonstrated by
- Ability to perform staff scheduling
- Ability to perform timesheet approvals
- Ability to perform coaching
- Ability to perform weekly meetings with staff
- Ability to run reports to ensure quality care
- Ability to maintain EHR core competencies as evidenced by
- Ability to perform health record maintenance, including archiving, destruction, scanning and indexing of health information into health records according to established policies and protocols
