Job Summary
Coordinate overall patient care between surgeons, anesthesiologists, and room staff while functioning as a first assistant during incisions, excisions, and repairs. Participate in preoperative assessment and planning, then handle and dissect tissues, clamp blood vessels, coagulate bleeding points, ligate vessels, and suture muscle, fascia, and skin in collaboration with the surgeon. Verbally confirm surgical sites before anesthesia induction and accurately perform sponge, needle, sharp, and instrument counts. Inspect sterile items, maintain traffic patterns around the sterile field, and prepare instruments according to physician preference. Obtain and interpret patient data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Two years' perioperative nursing experience
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice
- Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) certification in the state of practice
- Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) certification in the state of practice
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification
- Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Status (PEARS)/Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy
- Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) membership
- Facility Specific License/Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from approved vendor per AH policy
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy
- All required vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter, where applicable
- Access to and understanding of E-Verify Participation and Right to Work notices
