Job Summary
Medical Assistant in a Primary Care clinic at Northwestern Medicine supports physicians and nurses by ensuring efficient patient flow, preparing exam rooms, taking vital signs, and assisting with procedures (ECG, venipuncture, immunizations, and CLIA-waived testing). The role includes administrative duties, stock and instrument management, patient interaction, and collaboration with the patient-care team. Requires a high school diploma or GED and current certification or eligibility for the listed Medical Assistant certifications; BLS/CPR; 0–2 years of relevant experience; strong computer skills; familiarity with electronic medical records; completion of an accredited MA program is preferred. The position is full-time in Lakeview, Chicago, with in-person responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Current certification in CMA/AMT/NCCT/NHA/NCMA/NRCMA or able to meet eligibility for one of the five eligible exams (CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA, NRCMA)
- American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification
- 0 to 2 years experience in a relevant role
- Strong computer skills
- Experience with electronic medical record (preferred)
- Completion of accredited Medical Assistant training program (preferred)
- One to two years of ambulatory care experience (preferred)
- Experience with EMR (preferred)
- Certification within first six months of employment (required)
