Job Summary
Medical Assistant in Otolaryngology at West Penn Hospital assists in coordinating examination, treatment and health care planning, rooms patients, obtains vitals, screens medications and patient history, supports procedures, may act as a scribe, ensures exam rooms and supplies readiness, documents in the EHR, and follows HIPAA/privacy policies. Requires completion of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience, CPR, and relevant background clearances; certification within 120 days of hire. Role may involve floating between locations and performing clerical duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum High School / GED or Completion of a Medical Assistant Program
- CPR – American Heart Association
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Certification Requirements: Graduated from a medical assistant program within five years OR proof of one year of work experience as a medical assistant in the last three years; must obtain certification within 120 days of hire (NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA)
- May require/seek certification training and/or testing within 30 days of hire and obtain certification within 120 days of hire
- Preferred Associate's Degree (not required)
- HIPAA compliance and privacy policy adherence
- Ability to perform back office testing and assist with examinations and procedures
- Ability to prepare exam rooms and manage inventory of supplies
- Ability to document accurately in the EHR
- Ability to function as a scribe with training (optional)
