Job Summary
Support the patient and provider throughout the visit by ensuring both are prepared and answering patient questions before they leave. Provide excellent patient service through effective communication over the phone and in person while completing appropriate documentation, including patient registration if necessary. Maintain required clinical knowledge, technical skills, and credentials through personal professional development and handle other duties as assigned. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and the Ochsner Health System Compliance & Privacy Program. This role involves direct patient care in an orthopedic hand clinic setting with exposure to blood and body fluids.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with and maintaining confidential information
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue
Desired Qualifications
- Completion of a formal training program
- Medical Assistant program
