Medical Assistant, Ophthalmology - Full Time

Job Summary
Monitor vital signs, transport patients, and perform fingerstick blood sugar checks while maintaining aseptic technique and observing for breaks in protocol. Assist in pre-op and post-op assessments, stock surgical supplies, and verify sterilizer and refrigerator temperatures daily. Document results in medical records, report patient reactions to nurses or physicians, and identify family teaching needs. Act under direct supervision during laser procedures and initiate emergency measures for adverse conditions. Maintain inventory levels, participate in departmental meetings, and ensure equipment remains clean and safe.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Commitment to work over 40 hours to meet the needs of the business
- Ability to work weekends when applicable
- Reliable transportation that would allow employee to go to multiple work locations with minimal notice
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs
- Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands
- Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to effectively perform essential job functions involving frequent walking, sitting, and standing
- Ability to bend, stoop, and reach
Desired Qualifications
- Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification
- Desire to gain industry knowledge and training
