Job Summary
Conduct preliminary patient work-ups, scribe physician notes, and document medical history and medications in the Electronic Medical Record. Verify patient information, check eye conditions including visual acuity and pupil response, and perform diagnostic tests such as dilation, refraction, and OCT. Measure vital signs, prepare patients for treatments, and ensure exam rooms are stocked and cleaned. Provide exceptional customer service by greeting patients promptly and anticipating physician needs to facilitate clinic flow. Comply with all company policies, including HIPAA, and accurately code procedures and diagnoses for billing. Maintain up-to-date drug counts and perform general office duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Full-time, long-term position
- Must not be a student looking for only a summer job
- Must not work part-time during the school year
- Travel to other office in Millburn, NJ is required as needed
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum of one year of experience working as an Ophthalmology Technician in general ophthalmology and/or retina
- Favorable result on Background Check
- Basic computer skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Excitement to learn and grow
- Must have open availability to work any shift
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs
- Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands
- Visual and auditory acuity - including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to adjust focus
- Reliable transportation that would allow employee to go to multiple work locations with minimal notice
- Commitment to work over 40 hours to meet the needs of the business
- Ability to work weekends when applicable
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications
- Visual and auditory acuity - including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus - is required 100% of the time
Desired Qualifications
- Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification
- Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) certification
- Phlebotomy license
- Desire to gain industry knowledge and training
- Demonstrates initiative in accomplishing practice goals
- Ability to grow, adapt, and accept change
- Consistently creates a positive work environment by being team-oriented and patient-focused
- Ability to interact with all levels of employees in a courteous, professional manner at all times
- Requires proficient keyboarding skills
- Use of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and image management system
- Ability to quickly learn new applications
