Job Summary
Welcome patients, families, and providers while escorting individuals to examination rooms and obtaining accurate medical histories. Measure and document complete vital signs, review and update medications, allergies, immunizations, and social history in the electronic medical record. Assist with examinations, treatments, and in-office procedures, including performing point-of-care testing within applicable regulations. Complete pre-visit planning, monitor and respond to electronic medical record messages, and clean, disinfect, and restock treatment rooms. Maintain clinical logs and safety checks for emergency medications and refrigerators. Support front-office functions such as patient check-in, check-out, and appointment scheduling while protecting patient confidentiality and complying with HIPAA requirements.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Graduation from an accredited healthcare program, such as Medical Assistant, CNA, LPN, or EMT, or equivalent relevant work experience (2 years as a medical assistant)
- Previous Medical Assistant experience
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Ability to maintain all certifications required by applicable state guidelines
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to frequently lift or move up to 20 pounds
- Ability to occasionally lift or move more than 25 pounds
- Close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus
Desired Qualifications
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or other nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification
- One to three years of Medical Assistant experience in pediatrics or family medicine
- Electronic medical record experience
- Experience using the athenahealth practice management system
