Job Summary

Support the patient and provider throughout the visit by ensuring both are prepared and that all questions are answered before the patient leaves. Provide excellent patient service through effective communication over the phone and in person, while completing appropriate documentation including patient registration. Maintain clinical knowledge and technical skills through personal professional development, adapting explanations and communication styles to specific patient populations. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and the Compliance & Privacy Program regarding patient safety and privacy. Work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision, maintaining confidentiality and adapting to the specific needs of the Ochsner Health patient population.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with and maintaining confidential information
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
  • Clinical knowledge
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to lift 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally
  • Ability to lift 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently
  • Ability to lift greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly
  • Ability to walk or stand to a significant degree
  • Ability to sit most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls
  • Ability to work at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials
  • Knowledge of current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility
  • Ability to ensure compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards
  • Ability to report any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct
  • Ability to address patient/employee safety, patient privacy, and/or other compliance-related concerns
  • Residence in Louisiana (not Colorado, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington, or Washington D.C.)

Desired Qualifications

  • Completion of a formal medical assistant training program
