Job Summary
Medical Assistant Neurosurgery role providing direct patient care and clinical support in an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, reconciling medications, collecting patient history, facilitating patient flow, managing the electronic health record (EPIC), scheduling appointments, processing medication requests, handling prior authorizations, and coordinating tests and procedures. May perform EKGs, lab tests, injections, and phlebotomy upon clinical competency completion. Requires strong communication and organizational skills and regular on-site presence to perform essential duties.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency
- 1+ year experience as Medical Assistant in a medical office, clinic or similar setting required
- Experience must include direct, hands-on patient care in a clinical setting, such as obtaining vital signs, documenting patient history and medications, and performing clinical procedures (e.g. EKG’s, phlebotomy, administering injections or vaccines)
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, that includes hands on patient experience as part of the curriculum, required
- Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire
- BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire
- Preferred Qualifications for a Certified Medical Assistant: Current Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, or AAMP
- Or graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program with current unrestricted licensure
- Basic computer skills, experience with EMR System a plus
