Job Summary

Measure patient vitals, height, and weight; screen for pain, distress, and clinical depression. Complete rooming processes, including escorting patients to exam rooms and updating Electronic Medical Records with medication lists, allergies, and health histories. Administer approved ID, SQ, IM, and PO medications; access drug cabinets and flush implanted ports after competency validation. Collect laboratory specimens, perform simple dressing changes, and remove flushed peripheral IV catheters. Assist with telephone triage, provider procedures, and patient education. Schedule appointments, arrange referrals, and assist with insurance pre-authorizations and forms. Stock exam rooms and maintain supplies. Adhere to Tennessee Oncology policies, attend mandatory training, and complete competency validations.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification
  • 6 months experience in a health-care related field
  • Current TO approved BLS provider card
  • Knowledge of organization policies, procedures systems
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements for safe handling of blood and body fluids
  • Skill in computer applications
  • Skill in venipuncture
  • Skill in customer service, i.e. answering phone, greeting patients
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, and other internal and external sponsor and agencies
  • Demonstrates a positive, respectful, empathetic attitude at all times
  • Proven ability to multi-task in fast paced environment is essential
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

Desired Qualifications

  • Graduate of Medical Assistant Training Program
  • CMA/CCMA certification
