Job Summary
Conduct routine clinical procedures and tests in the exam room while advising patients on preparation and ensuring pre-visit work is completed. Measure vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse rate, weight, and height, and perform waived point-of-care testing such as strep, urine, and glucose. Update the electronic medical record with accurate demographic information, medications, allergies, and test results, and reconcile medications to set up pending refills. Optimize patient flow, greet and escort patients to exam rooms, and keep them informed of visit status and delays. Assist clinicians with additional department-specific tests and resolve minor patient concerns.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalency certificate from an accredited institution or governmental unit or a Medical Assistant Certification
- Associate degree in medical assisting or graduate of medical assistant certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- 1+ years of experience in a clinical or customer service setting
- Knowledge of reagent stability and storage
- Understands the testing procedure and factors influencing test results
- Computer experience with the ability to use word processing and spreadsheet programs
- Electronic medical record (EMR) experience and/or aptitude to master the EMR based on other technology experience
- Pass a drug test before beginning employment
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to obtain BLS within 30 days of hire
