Job Summary
Medical Assistant (MA) needed for full-time, day-shift work in the Medical Department at the Niagara County Jail in Lockport, NY. Responsibilities include medical records requests, administrative reports, Continuity of Care (COC) release, blood draws, maintaining examination and treatment areas, verification of medications and medical information, maintaining medication records, answering calls, filing and confidentiality, providing clerical support to the medical department (typing reports, letters, memoranda), data entry, scanning documents, assisting with credentialing of new hires, maintaining staff logs, scheduling transports, and assisting with billing. Requires completion of an approved Medical Assistant program, clerical experience, typing ability, proficiency in phlebotomy, strong patient assessment skills, effective communication, familiarity with office/medical equipment, medical terminology, and at least 2 years of relevant experience; proficient with Word, Excel, and Outlook; strong organizational skills and discretion with confidential information.
Required Qualifications
- completed an approved Medical Assistant program
- some clerical experience and ability to type
- proficient in phlebotomy
- good grasp of patient assessment skills
- effective communication skills & pleasant telephone manner
- ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- working knowledge of office equipment and medical equipment
- working knowledge of medical terminology
- minimum of 2 years medical assistant or medical office administrative support
- strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- ability to work with confidential matters and information is required
