Job Summary
Conduct indirect and direct patient care under provider direction, including measuring vital signs, documenting patient needs, and administering ordered medications. Show patients to examination rooms, prepare them for physicians, and assist with procedures such as giving injections or changing wound dressings. Collect and log laboratory specimens, perform routine tests, and maintain clinical and administrative skills per departmental guidelines. Troubleshoot issues and escalate changes in patient condition to the provider or supervisor. Maintain standards of excellence in all interactions with internal and external customers while adhering to legal responsibilities and state guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- High School/GED
- Enrollment in an approved Medical Assistant program
- Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); American Association of Medical Assisting Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Nationally Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)(not accepted in the state of South Carolina); Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA); Nati...
- BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
Desired Qualifications
- Completion of externship or clinical lab training
- 1 year of recent Medical Assisting experience
