Job Summary
Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs, weight, and height. Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment, and record medical history, vital statistics, or test results in medical records. Perform general office duties such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance forms. Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing. Clean and sterilize instruments, dispose of contaminated supplies, and prepare treatment rooms by keeping them neat, clean, and stocked. Act as a liaison with other departments and advocate for patients with a positive customer service approach. This role supports healthcare teams under the direction of providers at The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc., facilitating efficient care through direct patient interaction and collaboration with physicians and nursing staff.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Basic Life Support [BLS Certification]
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software
- Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
- Managing one's own time and the time of others
