Job Summary
Medical Assistant II at Sutter Health's SMF-Sutter Med Foundation (Central). Provides clinical and clerical support to the patient care team by performing back-office and patient-related tasks to support delivery of high-quality patient care. Helps ensure smooth patient workflow within the department and assists the care team in implementing the medical plan of care. Integrates education, technical competence, and patient interaction to gain confidence from patients and families. Performs duties under the direction of a clinician. Requires HS diploma or GED, completion of Medical Assistant training per California requirements (or equivalent via on-the-job training), BLS, and about one year of relevant experience. Proficiency in vital signs, preparing patients for exams, administering injections, data interpretation, and EHR usage; strong communication and time-management skills; ability to work independently and within a team; comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite and standard office/EHR systems. This is a full-time, non-exempt role based in Sacramento or Elk Grove, CA.
Required Qualifications
- HS Diploma or GED
- Completion of course of study for Medical Assistants as specified by the Medical Board of California (must present diploma within 90 days) OR Sutter Health on-the-job training in medical assisting equivalent to one year
- BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
- 1 year of recent relevant experience
- General knowledge of medical procedures, anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology
- Competent in basic Medical Assisting skills (taking vital signs, preparing patients for exam, administering injections)
- Ability to interpret data and instructions in multiple formats
- Strong written and verbal communication, ability to explain sensitive information clearly
- Time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize in a standardized environment
- Proficiency with computer applications (Microsoft Office) and EHR
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers
