Medical Assistant II - Pulmonary Critical Care and Allergy Medicine

Job Summary
Conduct direct patient care and pulmonary/allergy testing while administering biologic, allergy, and vaccine injections. Support providers during clinic visits, manage patient flow in a high-volume ambulatory setting, and complete clinical documentation and administrative tasks. Perform general lab work, register patients, and instruct them on procedures under physician supervision. Precept current team members and externs as requested. Maintain EMR files, process physician order entry, and ensure accurate execution of medical orders and referrals. This role offers cross-training between Pulmonary Critical Care and Allergy Medicine specialties within a collaborative, supportive culture focused on quality outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a high-volume ambulatory clinic
- Hands-on externship experience
- AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduation from a Medical Assistant program
- Current certification in medical assisting from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)
- Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding
- TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire
- Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire
- Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures
- Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers
- Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists
- Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills
Desired Qualifications
- MA certification preferred; non-certified candidates (MA I) will be considered
- Previous injection experience
- TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire
