Job Summary
Medical Assistant II provides paraprofessional medical assistance to patients and supports physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and nurses in patient care. Under general supervision, assists with examinations and procedures, coordinates clinic arrangements, conducts vital signs and screening tests (including ECGs and vision/blood/urine samples), administers medications and single-dose parenteral care as ordered, maintains biohazard waste protocols and medical records, and supports patient education and community outreach efforts. Requires high school diploma (GED or equivalent), completion of a Medical Assistant program with a recognized certificate, CPR certification, knowledge of medical terminology, phlebotomy experience, and strong communication and teamwork skills.
Required Qualifications
- Must have high school education (GED or equivalent experience)
- Experience and training obtained by on the job training for completion of a medical assisting program that results in an approved Medical Assistant Certificate.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience in phlebotomy.
- Basic understanding of medical tests, reimbursement issues, TARS (Medicare, MediCal, PPOs, HMOs, etc.)
- Computer data entry, calculator and basic math skills.
- Current CPR certification.
