Job Summary
Interview patients to obtain medical information, measure vital signs, and collect laboratory specimens for testing. Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment, and clean and sterilize instruments while maintaining stocked supplies. Record patient history, vital statistics, and test results in electronic health records, and manage patient flow by scheduling appointments and answering telephones. Act as a liaison with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care and advocate for patients with a positive customer service approach. Requires 1-2 years of direct medical assisting experience and BLS certification.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Associate's Degree
- Basic Life Support [BLS Certification]
- Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations
- Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
- Ability to manage one's own time and the time of others
