Job Summary

Schedule patient appointments, x-rays, and labs; coordinate schedule changes with the front desk. Administer medications, give non-intravenous injections, and apply bandages or dressings. Draw blood, collect biological specimens, and conduct diagnostic tests to determine patient health. Record vital signs, interview patients for medical histories, and document all interactions in the electronic medical record. Prepare patient treatment areas, inventory supplies, and operate medical equipment. Control prescription refills, explain technical information to patients, and dispose of biomedical waste. Complete office charge slips with diagnosis and CPT codes. Maintain ethical standards and adhere to professional practices.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification
  • Medical Assistant (MA) certification/registration, or any other equivalent or comparable medical/clinical certification, registration or licensure
  • Certification, registration or licensure must be provided through an accredited organization or appropriate licensing board
  • Customer services skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Close attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Person of integrity and character
  • Ability to work with staff members at all levels of the organization in a cooperative, team-oriented manner
  • Computer proficiency (i.e. PC windows and MS Office environment)
  • Ability to quickly learn new applications
  • Proficient in use of English language both in written and verbal communication
  • Ability to communicate with individuals of varying socio-economic backgrounds
  • Ability to accurately prioritize multiple tasks
  • Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families
  • Ability to be mobile and work in various positions (standing, sitting, bending, and walking) for extended periods of time
  • Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods
  • Ability to perform constant repetitive hands and finger motions

Desired Qualifications

  • Preferred ability of typing 40 cwpm
  • Preferred knowledge of operating electronic health records (EHR) systems
