Medical Assistant II- Gastroenterology

Job Summary
In a Gastroenterology clinic, perform direct patient care and clinical duties under supervision. Responsibilities include rooming patients, obtaining patient history and vital signs, preparing charts, completing documentation, and back-office tasks; register and schedule activities; maintain EMR files; may perform computerized physician order entry as directed; may precept MA team members or externs. Must hold current medical-assisting certification (CMA/RMA/CCMA/NCMA/CMAC) and AHA BLS certification. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding, OSHA/CLIA/ADA knowledge, and basic math/data entry skills. Expected to participate in teamwork and quality programs and to support patient flow and procedures as per organizational standards.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Graduation from a Medical Assistant program preferred
- Current certification in medical assisting (CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, or CMAC) required
- AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required
- Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required
- TB validated or validation within 6 months of hire preferred
- Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists
- Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers
- Basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills
