Job Summary

Support the dermatology and MOHS patient care team by performing back office and patient-related tasks under clinician direction. Take vital signs, prepare patients for exams, and administer injections while ensuring smooth workflow and integrating education to gain patient cooperation. Interpret data and instructions from various formats, prioritize assignments within standardized operating procedures, and utilize Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health record systems. Work independently or as part of the team to accomplish multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions, occasionally handling hazardous drugs in accordance with NIOSH and USP 800 guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Completion of a course of study consistent with the requirements for Medical Assistants as specified by the Medical Board of California
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification
  • 1 year of recent relevant experience
  • Completion of Sutter Health on-the-job training in medical assisting equivalent to one year
  • General knowledge of various medical procedures, views, and equipment
  • Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology
  • Competence in basic Medical Assisting skills such as taking vital signs, preparing patients for exam, and administering injections
  • Ability to interpret a variety of data and instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Possession of written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people
  • Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines
  • General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and electronic health record (EHR)

  • Ability to handle hazardous drugs in the course of their work, including patient care, which requires them to manage, store, prepare, receive, unpack, transport, dispose of, or administer drugs identified as hazardous or potentially hazardous by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and in accordance with the USP 800 guidelines
  • Availability for Days Schedule: Per Diem/Casual Shift Hours: 8 Days of the Week: Friday, Monday, Thursday, Tuesday, Wednesday
  • Ability to present diploma within 90 days
