Job Summary
The Medical Assistant I assists patients through routine visits under supervision, supports clinical services (vital signs, EKG, immunizations, vaccines, specimen collection), ensures complete documentation, operates medical equipment (ECG, audiometry, glucometer, spirometer, HbA1c, autoclave), administers vaccines per the five rights of medication administration, adheres to funding protocols, and supports patient flow and referrals. Responsibilities include preparing exams, assisting providers during examinations and procedures, coordinating admissions/discharges, completing program forms, tracking follow-ups for ongoing care, rotating to other clinic sites as needed, maintaining cold-chain storage, aiding interpreter needs, and participating in mandatory trainings. Requires knowledge of medical terminology, strong computer skills, BLS certification, and the ability to work in English (with potential multilingual requirements). Nevada-specific license may be required, and EPIC EMR experience is a plus.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Medical Assistant certificate from an accredited school
- 160 hours externship or 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Proficiency in computer usage and EMR (EPIC is a plus)
- Fluent English; other languages may be required depending on location
- Nevada Laboratory License required (Nevada only)
- Type at least 35 w.p.m.
