Job Summary
Medical Assistant I in Orthopedics provides patient rooming and clinical support in a Winston-Salem orthopedics clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, gathering and updating health information, assisting with procedures (pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy), administering routine medications under physician/App orders or standing protocols, ordering and coordinating tests, coordinating referrals, and communicating with the care team to maintain smooth clinic flow. Performs lab procedures and phlebotomy as needed, may remove sutures/staples and perform additional skill-based tasks (EKG, spirometry, Holter, drug refills) under supervision. Must ensure age-appropriate care, maintain aseptic technique, and support patient education and care continuity. Required certifications include BLS and an accredited Medical Assistant certification (CMA/CCMA/NCMA/RMA/NRMA/NHA or equivalent); education should include a high school diploma or GED with graduation from an accredited MA program; 1 year of experience is preferred. The role is full-time with standard clinic hours and a focus on clinical operations and patient experience.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (education required); Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program required
- Current Medical Assistant certification from CMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), CCMA (National Healthcareer Association), NCMA (National Center for Competency Testing), RMA (American Medical Technologists), NRMA (National Registry of Medical Assistants), or other listed Medical Assistant certifications as required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required
- Experience: 1 year experience preferred
- Must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles and provide age-appropriate patient care as described in department standards
- Ability to perform routine and advanced clinical support tasks under supervision; strong communication and interpersonal skills; proficient with electronic medical records systems
