Job Summary
Medical Assistant I in Cardiology Clinic (Chicago) responsible for patient rooming, vital signs, medical history, medication reconciliation, and completing screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health). Assists providers with procedures, performs venipuncture and specimen collection, handles POCT and CLIA-waived tests, administers medications and vaccines, processes lab orders, and coordinates referrals and scheduling. Cross-trained to support clinic practices, maintains a clean, safe environment, and demonstrates effective communication and teamwork. Requires completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience, HS diploma/GED, and BLS certification; EMR proficiency and age-appropriate patient care knowledge are essential.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification
- Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment (where applicable)
- Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required within 1 year in select areas
- Proficiency with electronic medical records systems
- Ability to lift 35 pounds; physical stamina for routine clinical duties
