Job Summary
Medical Assistant in General Surgery at Northwestern Medicine. Responsible for supporting physicians, nurses, and licensed staff by facilitating efficient patient flow, assisting with procedures (ECG, venipuncture, immunizations, CLIA-waived testing), preparing exam rooms, stocking supplies, and maintaining patient confidentiality. The role emphasizes professional patient interaction, accurate vital signs documentation, and coordination of delegated responsibilities within the clinic. Requires high school diploma or GED and relevant certification within six months; prior experience and strong computer skills are preferred. Involves in-person clinical work at the Geneva, IL location with no remote work component.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Current certification in CMA/AMT/NCCT/NHA/NRCMA/CCMA (or eligible and plan to attain within six months)
- American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification
- Zero to two years’ experience in a relevant role
- Strong computer skills
- Experience with electronic medical record (preferred)
- Completion of accredited Medical Assistant training program (preferred)
- Ambulatory care experience (preferred)
- Ability to interact professionally with patients and staff
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
- Ability to assist with procedures such as ECG, venipuncture, immunizations, specimen collection
