Job Summary
Escort patients to exam rooms, validate identifiers, and measure vital signs while preparing rooms for examination. Draw blood, collect lab samples, and perform point-of-care testing including EKG, glucose, pregnancy tests, and urinalysis. Assist physicians with patient intake, transcribing visits into EPIC, and documenting history, physical exams, and orders. Manage administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering calls, reviewing inbasket messages, and processing prescription refill requests. Clean and stock exam rooms, sterilize equipment, and ensure infection control standards are met. Communicate MyChart functionality to patients and facilitate appropriate translation services prior to visits. Support clinical quality initiatives by maintaining accurate EMR documentation and ensuring proper specimen handling per organizational policy.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or the equivalent
- Completion of a Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution OR upon hire hold a current medical assistant Certification from a Nationally Recognized accredited institution (such as American Association of Medical Assistant(AAMA); American Medical Technologies (AMT); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); National Healthcare Association (NHA))
- Working knowledge of English is evident in verbal, reading and writing abilities
- demonstrated ability in computer skills
- Ability to complete multiple tasks efficiently and thrive in a team work environment which pursues a positive patient care experience
- Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
Desired Qualifications
- MA experience preferred
- EKG experience preferred
- phlebotomy and venipuncture experience preferred
- At least 1 year or more of OBGYN experience preferred
- other language an asset
