Job Summary
Medical Assistant in Family Medicine handles patient intake and preparation, records vital signs and pertinent health information, and supports a range of clinical procedures. Responsibilities include assisting with examinations and procedures (e.g., pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy), administering routine medications under physician/APP orders or standing protocols, performing laboratory procedures (e.g., strep testing, wound culture, specimen collection) using aseptic technique, and coordinating referrals and follow-up. The role requires ensuring accurate patient communication, maintaining clinic flow, supporting infection-control practices, and demonstrating age-appropriate patient care and competency in documentation and EMR systems. Licensure/certification updates (BLS and multiple MA credentials) and at least a HS diploma or GED are required, with an Associate’s degree in Medical Assisting preferred. Strong teamwork, verbal/written communication, and technical skills (phlebotomy, EKG, phlebotomy-related procedures, etc.) are essential.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting preferred
- Current Medical Assistant certification from CMA/CCMA/NCMA/RMA/AMT/NHA/NCMSMA/NCMSNA/NRMA/NAHP/NRMA (as applicable)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Experience: 1 year experience preferred
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: ability to perform routine and complex medical assistant tasks, strong communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency with electronic medical records systems
- Ability to perform routine and complex clinical tasks under supervision
- Understanding of growth and development across the patient life span
