Job Summary

Collaborate with the Patient Care Team to provide clinical care and administrative support, including preparing for exams, rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, and administering medications per standing orders. Document patient care accurately in the electronic health record, complete prior authorizations, and perform point-of-care testing per CLIA guidelines. Manage infection control protocols by pre-cleaning instruments and evaluating supply levels in exam rooms. Work Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM for 40 hours weekly, with occasional Saturday clinic coverage and potential travel to other PHC locations.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in a medical assistant, patient care technician, certified nurse assistant, phlebotomy, or related clinical position or completion of medical assisting program from an accredited institution.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and collaboration skills with ability for a team approach to care plus develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Organization and priority skills with detail orientation.
  • Professional skills with ability to remain composed in all situations and show empathy.
  • Basic computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office applications and electronic health record system.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Current Basic Life Support for HealthCare Providers*
  • current Mandatory Reporter approved for the State of Iowa*
  • Must be able to work a Saturday clinic, 9 AM - 1 PM, approximately once a quarter.
  • Must be available to cover other shifts or work at other PHC clinics in Ames, Des Moines, and Marshalltown.
  • Must be available for Monday - Friday 8 AM - 5 PM schedule.
  • Must be available for 40 hours per week.

Desired Qualifications

  • Effective Medical Assistant skills with ability to utilize universal precautions in patient care.
  • Work experience in a community health center or medical clinic.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in Spanish.
  • Phlebotomy skills.
