Medical Assistant Certified/Registered (Internal Medicine)

Job Summary
Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, and measure vital signs including pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height. Record chief complaints on patient flow sheets, run spirometry tests and EKGs, and assist physicians during examinations. Review patient records for completeness regarding laboratory, imaging, and physician dictation reports. Coordinate patient flow by scheduling appointments, answering telephones, greeting patients, and registering them in the care area. Ensure examining rooms are properly equipped and order supplies as needed. Call for pre-certifications and work with account representatives to facilitate referrals. Shift: Day Shift (Monday through Friday, no weekends or holidays). 40 hours per week. Hourly pay.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- one to three months related experience and/or training
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certification through any of the following regulatory bodies: CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) – American Association of Medical Assistants, RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) – American Medical Technologists, CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant) – National Healthcare Association, or NCMA (National Certified Medical Assistant)
- Current CPR/BLS Certification
- be able to obtain certification within 90 days of hire
Desired Qualifications
- One year of work experience in a clinic setting
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control
- Prior experience or knowledge of examinations, diagnostics, and treatment room procedures
- Basic understanding of ICD-10 coding, CPT coding, and medical necessity as related to the ordering of laboratory work or procedures
