Job Summary
Medical Assistant Certified at Houston Methodist assists in examinations and patient care under the supervision of clinical or administrative leadership. The role supports administration of patient care in assigned clinical areas, including examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatment, and dressing changes, as well as general administrative duties aligned with CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA, and government standards. Responsibilities include scheduling patient appointments, ensuring medical necessity compliance, verifying eligibility for care, maintaining accurate medical records in EMR/MyChart, and communicating with patients, physicians, family members, and staff. The position emphasizes safe, patient-centered care, continuous training, and adherence to organizational policies.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED or homeschool equivalency)
- Two years of Medical Assistant experience in a clinic/outpatient setting or one year in the Novice-II position
- BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA) certification
- Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA/NAHP/NCCT/NHA or Registered Medical Assistant or EMT
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (reading/writing) for safety and documentation
- Knowledge of CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA standards and related regulatory requirements
- Ability to perform patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, and dressing changes
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and MyChart
- Ability to schedule appointments and verify medical necessity and eligibility
- Demonstrated teamwork and professional communication skills
- Attention to patient safety, quality assurance, and compliance with regulations
