Job Summary

Conduct indirect and direct patient care within the Medical Assisting scope, including measuring vital signs, administering medications, and preparing patients for examination rooms. Document patient needs and chief complaints in electronic medical records, manage in-basket messages, and assist with virtual health visits by pre-charting and troubleshooting issues. Maintain a safe environment by keeping work areas clean, ensuring proper equipment function, and disposing of contaminated supplies. Show patients to exam rooms and perform front desk workflows such as scheduling, phone triage, and check-in/check-out. Follow up on orders, appointments, and referrals while collecting co-pays as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); American Association of Medical Assisting Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Nationally Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA); National Association for Health Professionals (NAH...
  • If incumbent is unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not accepted in the state of South Carolina)
  • BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations)
  • High School/GED
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant post-secondary education program (preferred in all states except South Carolina)
  • In South Carolina: An accredited Medical assistant post-secondary education program
  • In South Carolina: A Career and technical education health sciences program approved by the South Carolina Department of Education
  • In South Carolina: A medical assisting program provided by a branch of the United States military
  • In South Carolina: A Medical assisting United States Department of Labor approved Registered Apprenticeship program
  • In South Carolina: A Training program that is delivered, in whole or in part, by a health care employer that aligns to a nationally accredited certification exam
  • Completion of externship or clinical lab training (preferred)
  • 1 year of recent Medical Assisting experience (preferred)
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
