Job Summary
General overview: A Medical Assistant (Bariatric Surgery) at Allegheny Health Network supporting West Penn Hospital by assisting in coordinating examination, treatment, and health care planning for patients. Responsibilities include preparing and rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, documenting patient information and history, updating medication lists in the EHR, potentially administering depression screening tools, conducting annual wellness screenings, reviewing social histories, aiding in ordering as per AHN protocols, performing back-office testing, assisting providers with examinations and procedures, and potentially serving as a scribe. May float between physician office locations and provide follow-up communication with patients via preferred method. Must maintain compliant clinical and clerical duties, ensure inventory and supplies are stocked, and adhere to HIPAA and privacy policies.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum High School / GED or Completion of a Medical Assistant Program
- CPR – American Heart Association
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Certification Requirements: Employees who have: graduated from a medical assistant program within five years OR proof of one year of work experience as a medical assistant in the last three years must complete certification training and/or attempt testing within 30 days of hire and must obtain certification within 120 days of hire.
- Accepted Medical Assistant Certification (NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA)
- Employees who have not met the above certification criteria may have the opportunity to sit for a company proctored certification exam when qualified.
