Job Summary
Medical Assistant at Atrium Health Shelby Urgent Care (PRN). Responsibilities include rooming patients, taking vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history intake, health maintenance and screenings, assisting providers with procedures, performing venipuncture and lab specimen processing, conducting POCT per standing orders, completing CLIA-waived tests, administering medications and vaccines safely, handling insurance authorizations, scheduling, referrals, and supporting a clean, stocked clinical environment. Requires knowledge of age-specific care, strong communication and teamwork, competency in EMR/electronic systems, and adherence to department policies. Minimum education includes a high school diploma or GED with completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program (or acceptable military clinical training). BLS certification is required, with additional certifications (AAMA, AMT, NHA, etc.) potentially required depending on division. Must be able to work 40 hours per week with 12-hour shifts including weekdays, weekends, and holidays where applicable; physical ability to perform routine and complex skills within MA scope; and maintain patient safety and quality care in an Urgent Care setting.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent military clinical training (DD214) in lieu of a formal MA program
- BLS certification or equivalent (AHA or other approved)
- Experience with venipuncture and CLIA-waived testing may be required depending on location
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and basic computer skills
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and perform patient handling with assistance as needed
