Job Summary
Support at-risk youth by maintaining attendance, providing individual counseling, and conducting home or work site visits to reduce violence and improve academic engagement. Facilitate conflict intervention and mediation during the school day, plan advisory group sessions, and provide crisis intervention alongside Safe Passages Outreach Workers. Conduct intake assessments, recruit students, and deliver job and career development activities including resume writing and interview preparation. Collaborate with school faculty to implement enrichment programs, engage families in positive outcomes, and assist with referrals to external resources. Ensure timely documentation of work and statistics while participating in staff meetings and retreats. Occasional evening and Saturday hours are required.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent
- five years of experience in community work or community-centered activities in an area related to the duties as described
- Experience & knowledge of at-risk & gang-involved young people
- skills for working effectively with at-risk teenagers & young adults
- Excellent communication skills
- ability to communicate clearly, effectively & collaboratively with all levels of staff, program participants & community members
- Proficiency with computers & handheld devices
- ability to use databases & common office programs
- Ability to work a highly flexible schedule that includes late evenings, weekends & holidays
- Ability to walk 30 blocks & travel by public transportation
- Experience working with adolescents, individually & in groups
- Commitment to working as a member of an interdisciplinary school team
- Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based or youth & family development perspective
Desired Qualifications
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
- Valid driver�s license preferred
