Job Summary
Medical Assistant - Certified in OBGYN provides basic clinical care using established standards and reports patient observations to licensed staff. Responsibilities include collecting patient data (height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint/symptoms, current medications), preparing patients for provider evaluation, assisting during exams and procedures, transporting patients, maintaining exam/treatment/X-ray rooms and lab, stocking supplies, documenting in EMR, performing lab procedures (urine collection, blood samples), may perform diagnostic tests (EKGs, audiograms, vision testing, spirometry), assisting with referral and pre-authorization for tests, greeting patients, checking in/out, scheduling, relaying messages, and administering medications as directed. Requires High School Diploma or GED and Medical Assistant Certification, AHA BLS-HCP, and strong communication/computer skills. This role is based in Roanoke, VA and emphasizes collaboration, compassionate care, and ongoing learning within Carilion Clinic’s patient-centered healthcare network.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association (e.g., American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, National Association of Healthcare Professionals, American Registry of Medical Assistants, National Healthcare Association)
- AHA BLS-HCP Life Support certification
- Effective communication skills and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency with automated computer systems, including electronic medical records
