Job Summary
Plans and administers the school's library media program under the principal, providing direct instruction to students, staff training, and management of library media center materials, facilities, and equipment. Communicates the program to administrators, staff, students, parents, and the community; coordinates instructional activities with school and system goals. Leads selection of media materials, procurement of equipment, and development of media services to support curriculum, including resources for ESOL, Gifted, and other populations. Seeks program improvements through meetings and workshops, teaches information retrieval skills, maintains a library collection from print to new technologies, and provides supervision of the Media Clerk. Maintains public relations for the media center and collaborates with teachers to integrate resources into curriculum.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or higher in Media Services, Library Education or closely related field
- Certification/eligibility for GaPSC certification as Media Specialist
- Ability to obtain clearance certificate from GaPSC
- GaPSC certification or qualification as Media Specialist
