Media Clerk: Edison/Garfield

Job Summary

Manage circulation and collection maintenance by ensuring the library collection is accessible, organized, and accurately tracked through efficient check-in/out processes and physical shelf management. Process media materials from cataloging new arrivals to discards to maintain a current database, while generating quarterly needs assessment reports. Facilitate information literacy by assisting students and staff in locating resources and delivering engaging literary programming, including maintaining a consistent schedule of story hours. Coordinate Media Center logistics by optimizing space and AV equipment usage through collaborative scheduling and ensuring all materials are functional and distributed on time. Adhere to all legal, district, and administrative protocols to ensure the safe and professional operation of the Media Center.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • For Grade 6: Proof of passing a state approved paraprofessional assessment (grade 6)
  • For Grade 8: An Associate's degree or the completion of 60 college credits (grade 8)
  • Typing 35 w.p.m.
  • Ability to interface effectively with other departments, school personnel, other maintenance staff, and business contacts from outside of the District
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to accurately perform assigned tasks
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board Policies
  • Ability to promote harmonious working relationships with staff and outside business representatives
  • Ability to possess excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills
  • Ability to use computer, copier, and A/V equipment
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, etc.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff and the general public
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Successfully pass a Clerical exam (90%)

Desired Qualifications

  • Enrollment in, or completion, of Library Technology Program at the community college level
  • Experience in school Media Center functions (Children's books, cataloging, alphabetizing, organizing, filing, typing)
  • Computer skills/experience
  • Knowledge of computer-assisted library management programs
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
