Job Summary

Review laboratory policies and procedures, recommend improvements, and stay current with organizational communications. Operate all laboratory equipment, perform maintenance and calibration, and monitor quality control requirements. Perform patient testing on blood, body fluids, and tissues across chemistry, microbiology, hematology, and other sections, identifying and correcting specimen or instrument issues. Execute phlebotomy duties as assigned and participate in proficiency testing and special projects. Use appropriate safety devices when handling biohazardous materials.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science Degree including completion of an approved Clinical Laboratory Science program
  • MT (ASCP, AMT or equivalent)
  • Technically competent in trained laboratory sections and is capable of performing patient care for all age groups
  • Able to apply, perform, and implement trained laboratory procedures
  • Able to perform each trained test method, use instruments as instructed, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration procedures related to each test performed
  • A working knowledge of reagent stability and storage
  • Apply quality control policies and procedures of the laboratory
  • An awareness of the factors that influence test results
  • Able to assess and verify the validity of patient test results through the evaluation of quality control sample values prior to reporting patient test results
