Job Summary
Administers oral and topical medications to patients/residents under a physician's orders and in the supervision of a licensed nurse, following the five rights of medication administration. Performs duties to maintain health, comfort, and well-being; may record vital signs, document medication administration, observe reactions, and report them to a licensed nurse. May dispense narcotics under facility policy and account for them. Ensures medication rooms are organized and participates in facility education and QA. May supervise nursing assistants/orderlies as assigned by the charge nurse and contribute to patient safety and policy enforcement. Requires state Nursing Assistant certification and a state-approved medication administration certification; English literacy required.
Required Qualifications
- State certification as a Nursing Assistant
- State approved medication administration certification (where required)
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language
