Job Summary
Obtain vendor quotes for mechanical parts, place orders with the purchasing department, and track deliveries while escalating any quality or specification issues. Receive and inspect incoming materials against purchase orders, then stage hardware kits for machine builds. Assist with mechanical assembly following engineering drawings and support general upkeep, inventory, and maintenance of lab spaces and tools. This role supports research and machine build operations in a hands-on environment requiring strong attention to detail and independent initiative.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and assembly drawings
- Familiarity with common mechanical hardware, fasteners, and assembly tools and techniques
- Strong attention to detail
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately and completely
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with vendors, purchasing, and internal team members
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, shop/lab environment
- Proficiency with basic computer applications (email, spreadsheets, etc.)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Technical certificate or associate degree in a mechanical or manufacturing-related discipline
- Equivalent experience of 4+ years
Desired Qualifications
- English major preferred
- Electrical Drawing Interpretation: Ability to read electrical schematics and perform basic low-voltage wiring according to drawings
- Mechanical Drafting: Ability to create mechanical part drawings or assembly drawings using Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD software
- Prior experience with vendor management, procurement, or supply chain coordination
