Job Summary
Fermilab is seeking a Senior Mechanical Technician to collaborate with engineers and technicians in fabricating and assembling mechanical parts for beamline components. Responsibilities include testing equipment, monitoring vacuum systems, directing technician activities, and troubleshooting mechanical issues. Candidates should have a high school degree and significant relevant experience, with strong mechanical skills and the ability to work under various physical conditions.
Required Qualifications
- HS degree or technical certificate or equivalent
- 7+ years of extensive related experience
- 5+ years experience in a DOE laboratory or in a technical skill of strategic importance
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work at heights up to 10 feet
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Ability to operate cars and light trucks
- Ability to meet Oxygen Deficiency Hazard requirements
- Ability to work with chemicals
- Ability to follow verbal or written instructions
- Good communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to follow standard ultra-high vacuum practices
- Proficiency in working in a Windows PC environment
- Experience overseeing and directing welding and fabrication work
- Forklift qualifications
- Electrical-electronic experience
- Completion of OSHA Construction Safety 30-Hour Training
Additional Requirements
- Availability for overtime work
- Background check and drug screening required
- REAL-ID required for access to Fermilab Campus
