Job Summary
Design and analyze mechanical systems, equipment, and packaging for DOE and commercial nuclear power plants, including Advanced Reactor and Small Modular Reactor projects. Conduct feasibility studies, testing, and detailed design reviews using ANSYS, SolidWorks, and COMPRESS for fatigue, static, dynamic, and thermal analyses. Prepare and review design reports, white papers, and calculations adhering to ASME NQA-1, ASME III, ASME VIII, and piping codes (B31.1, B31.3). Support multidiscipline engineering teams by writing Design Basis Documents, developing estimates, and providing technical leadership on complex structural and thermal fluid system issues. Requires daily availability for evenings and weekends, domestic/international travel, and a Bachelor's degree with five years of nuclear industry experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience and/or training
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Working knowledge and experience using ANSYS
- Working knowledge and experience using SolidWorks
- Ability to prepare and review detailed analysis reports performed to the rigor of NQA-1 quality program
- Familiarity or experience designing and analyzing systems and equipment to the requirements of ASME III Div. 1, ASME III Div. 5, ASME VIII Div. 1 & 2, AISC or ASCE Design Codes and standards used in commercial or Government nuclear power or fuel processing plants
- Experience performing computational fluid dynamic (CFD)
- US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance
- Active Licensed Professional Engineer
- Ability to travel (domestically/internationally) approximately +/-10%

- Experience working within the nuclear industry
- Experience with CREO
- Proficiency using NASTRAN/FEMAP
- Experience using COMPRESS
- Experience using AutoPipe
- Experience with HVAC systems design and analysis
- Experience with thermal fluid systems design and analysis
- Experience with pressure drop, line sizing, valve sizing, pump, compressor calculations
- Experience with heat and cooling load sizing calculations, fan and duct sizing calculations
- Experience with Systems engineering per INCOSE, DOD 5000 or ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288
- Experience writing Design Basis Documents (DBDs) and System Design Descriptions (SDD)
- Experience preparing proposals and developing estimates including Basis of Estimates (BOEs)
- Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP...)
- Knowledge of ASME NQA-1
- ASME VIII Certifying Engineer and/or a Section III, Appendix XXIII Certifying Engineer
- Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen
