Job Summary
Mechanical Service Technician II performs start-up, checkout, and troubleshooting for HVAC and building-automation systems, including inspections, calibration, and service-appointment tasks. Responsibilities include mechanical inspections of boilers, chillers, and pumps; completing adjustments per manuals; evaluating costs and scope for projects; wiring checkout and aiding in automation-startups; documenting service reports; handling emergency service calls; ensuring safety and proper operation; providing customer service and professional communication; and providing technical assistance and training to other Specialists. Required competencies include knowledge of building automation systems, HVAC, mechanical and electrical concepts, reading safety and maintenance documents, strong communication, mathematical skills, and the ability to read blueprints and interpret technical information. Credentials include a valid driver's license, journeyman or master mechanical license, and EPA universal refrigeration handling certificate; physical ability for frequent travel and outdoor/indoor work under varied conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Associate degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum five years of experience in an HVAC capacity
- Minimum five years of experience in a mechanical capacity
- Minimum five years of experience in systems including on-the-job experience as a systems/mechanical specialist
- Valid driver license
- Block journeyman or master mechanical license
- EPA universal refrigeration handling certificate
- Trains and develops other Specialists on Systems, equipment, and company policies and procedures
- Willingness to travel frequently through Kansas and the Midwest; occasional overnight stays
