Mechanical Service Technician

Job Summary

Perform mechanical system inspections, service, and troubleshooting for HVAC, boilers, chillers, and pumps. Execute wiring checkouts, automation system start-ups, and critical adjustments per owner's manuals. Diagnose defects in sensors and control consoles, then adjust, repair, or replace parts. Complete written reports detailing customer issues, time, materials, and travel. Handle emergency service calls and service agreement tasks while managing project costs and scope. Provide technical training to teammates and customers on systems and company procedures. Requires a journeyman license, EPA certificate, and frequent travel across Kansas and the Midwest.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum five years of experience in an HVAC capacity
  • Minimum five years of experience in a mechanical capacity
  • Minimum five years of experience in systems including on-the-job experience as a systems/mechanical specialist
  • Strong knowledge of building automation systems, HVAC, mechanical systems, electrical concepts, and operations
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Mathematical abilities to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and create and interpret graphs
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Valid driver license
  • Block journeyman or master mechanical license
  • EPA universal refrigeration handling certificate
  • Requires frequent travel through Kansas and the Midwest
  • Requires occasional overnight stays
  • Must be able to recognize safety hazards and understand how to safely overcome them without causing harm to yourself or others
  • Understand the safety rules and regulations outlined in the BCS safety manual
  • Capable of reading and understanding blueprints

  • Requires frequent standing, walking, climbing of stairs or ladders, bending, squatting or twisting
  • Requires the ability to carry, lift, move or push up to 100 pounds on a regular basis
  • Must be able to talk and listen to others
  • Frequent use of manual dexterity and visualization of a computer screen through the day
  • Requires ability to see up close and distant, distinguish colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
