Job Summary

Define and implement projects to improve safety, profitability, and reliability at the Marathon Los Angeles Refinery. Coordinate project scope development with operations, contractors, and SMEs while developing estimates, decision support packages, and construction work packages. Review new and existing equipment designs, piping, and valves to identify potential problems and ensure compliance with ASME, TEMA, API, and company standards. Initiate and execute Management of Change procedures, participate in PHAs and HAZOP reviews, and lead incident investigations. Provide technical input for equipment purchase and fabrication, and support temporary repair packages. Work onsite on 9/80, 5/40, or 4/1 schedules with occasional after-hour calls and annual TAR support.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • minimum of 4 years post degree experience as a Mechanical or Project Engineer in the refining, petrochemical or manufacturing industry
  • fixed equipment and detail mechanical/piping design knowledge
  • ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously of varying magnitude and complexity from conception to commissioning and start-up
  • strong understanding of Management of Change requirements and processes
  • excellent communication, time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • proficiency in Microsoft: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook
  • ability to learn other computer systems
  • ability to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator)
  • ability to physically perform all tasks in the field
  • take hair drug test and physical
  • valid driver's license
  • legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship
  • ability to work on of the onsite schedules: 9/80, 5/40 or 4/1
  • after hours calls are required a few times a year
  • support of TAR once or twice a year
