Job Summary
Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery, including motors, pumps, and CNC spindles. Layout, assemble, and repair piping systems while operating mobile equipment like forklifts and cranes. Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools to shape parts to prescribed dimensions. Read blueprints for conveyor and automation systems, determine loading requirements for rigging, and verify finished product quality using measuring instruments. Work with minimal supervision on flexible shift hours, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, with little notice. This role supports General Motors' vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion within the Lansing CCA facility.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Department of Labor Completion of Apprenticeship Certificate in Mechanical trade (millwright, pipefitter, toolmaker, machine repair)
- six (6) years of documented experience in a Mechanical trade
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete the General Motors hiring process requirements which include comprehensive assessments, hair drug testing, and a background check
- At least 18 years of age
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Must be willing to work flexible shift hours and day, afternoon, or night shifts as well as overtime hours daily, weekend and holidays on those shifts with little notice
- Quick response to safety instructions, alarms, and signals
- Ability to work and stand for extended periods
- Comfortably wear personal protective equipment
- Navigate a busy environment
- Bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach
- May need to lift or carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs. depending on department
- Drive mobile equipment when needed
